Pottery. April 2020

My neighbor Fleur Swildens is a ceramist. She’s learning me how to use a potter’s wheel and it’s AMAZING! I really enjoy the slow process, the perfect thing to do during these lockdown times :)

80ies soft summers

When I was a little kid, we didn’t fly to a beach in Thailand during summer. We didn’t explore Columbia, Indonesia nor Mexico. We stayed at home and traveled in our minds, houses, and gardens. We played with sand and water. We watched films. We sang songs. We made drawings. We were bored. We chased chickens. We explored the forest and made detailed maps of it. We played hide & seek, again and again, and again. We built houses with blankets. We stayed there for several nights until we had it with the mosquito bites :)

I was really lucky, growing up with a big garden, a sandbox, animals, a playhouse, and a big forest next to our house. A brother and 2 sisters and always friends & family visiting us. While the adults were having political discussions around the campfire at night, we were exploring life with a huge amount of freedom and trust. And it felt amazing. The most important thing for me was that. The freedom and the trust we got, and the endless belief that ‘everything would be alright’. And that was more than enough to have a good time. We didn’t need to travel to faraway places.

Today, in these corona times, it might be a reality for a lot of us coming summer. That we have to travel in our own houses, gardens, neighborhood, heart & minds. And I do hope, that we can all do that with enough freedom and trust. For and with each other and ourselves. And even more, that we stay hopeful. That everything will be alright. No matter.

Take care, lots of love from Quarantaine Land.

Expo VOGELSCHRIK coming up!

December 20, 21 and 22 I will share my work at LUZ (Antwerp) together with my dear friend Ingrid Van Kogelenberg. We’ve been writing each other letters over the past years. They all circled around one short story I wrote about 7 years ago. Ingrid made the most amazing drawings, in all kind of techniques. This is one of her amazing works:

Hello from Drongen. July 2019

Last week we were staying at a friend’s house in Drongen, 5 kilometers from Ghent. A wonderful experience to be so close to nature. The river Leie is just around the corner and because of the lovely weather we had, it was amazing to spend some time there. We enjoyed a lot of walking, reading, I made some drawings, had lovely good healthy food AND we rented a boat !!

Today is my birthday. I will share the coming year a bit more about myself and my own work on this blog. A gift to myself and the world. Today I also want to share the inspiring work of my partner-in-art-crime who always inspires me: Ingrid. She, as a person, but of course also her work is really amazing!
